Turkey LAN Discussion

Ok I been talking to Jeff, and we have a place for our LAN!! $100.00 for one night. Now before you say there is no way I could pay that amount will your in luck. The more people that go the less you will have to pay. So lets say 10 people show up that would only be 10.00 for you. However I am hoping that this LAN will be a big one more then 10 people. As some of you may know Jeff works at a hotel in Denison by Wal-mart that is were we will have our next LAN. When will this be will we were thinking maybe Thanksgiving night. This way we have some notice and decide what game's we want to play. So lets start talking about this that way we can get things going.

Also lets talk about what game's we want to play right here that way who ever dose not have it we can make a copy for you and get it installed on you computer before that LAN.

Well, Modern Warfare 2 will be out by that time. So we could play that. But i have also completed my download for Operation Flashpoint 2. There is NO anti cheat i.e. CD KEY. So that will be a major help on LANing. We also need to find out if we will have the internet, im sure the place has WI FI, but what our connection will be would be nice to know. Last i heard from frosted flakes he said he would pay for the whole night, but i dont know. If not the whole night then maybe a good chunck of it.

On another note, i would like everyone to really be prepared for this thing. i.e. Make sure you have a ethernet cable AT LEAST 25ft. Longer is always better (thats what she said) Also, make sure you have room to install more games. Also make sure your PC is working, i dont come to these LAN's to fix people computer. The most i should have to do is get you seen on the network. If everyone had VISTA (or windows 7) by that time, then networking takes care of itself.

I'm gonna look into getting a network HDD for LAN's and household purposes. Maybe a 1TB drive that everyone can access. On that drive will hold all the game images for transfer. I still only have 2, 16-port switches. Which should be enough, but it all depends on our lay out and if people have long enough cords. I don't think a lack of space will be an issue for this place though.

That's all good but I was hoping that they would let us know now on what games they need that way we can give them the game before LAN. And yes we will have Internet he tells me that's is vary fast. So anyways get the word out there

There's a computer club at Southeastern, if you want I could mention it to them. But they are the kind of nerds that really scare you. The kind that run down the halls yelling computer slurs at each other. Quite terrifying.

So yeah, being on Turkey day is more of a ritual than having one on Halloween. Halloween is more of a party thing, not so much of a LAN. Plus, i dont know what all i will be doing that night, probably taking the boy trick or treating and what not. Then i got work at the crack of dawn.

In other news, Operation Flashpoint looks to be a challenging game. You get shot, you will bleed to death unless you bandage yourself up. You get shot in the leg, you cant run for a good while. I just made it past the first mission. I'm liking the built in command controls for my AI team. Would be much better in CO-OP. On the other hand i dont know what i would do without my AI calling out "Rifle man 200 yards south", cause i would never see that.

I dont know what pvp for operation flashpoint is like yet, i may have to go online to see. That way i can tell if it would be good for LANing. But yes, everyone having the game(s) preinstalled will make a major difference. So yea.

I'm gonna come by there sometime this week and check this place out for myself to get a better idea of what we are in for.

I dont think OPR Flashpoint 2 is gonna be a good ption (just by looking at the SYS requiments) on steam says required is Dual core, and not everybody has updated to duel/triple/quad core processors

Operation Flashpoint does look like it is a little hardware hungry. I still have yet to play past the first level, its a little difficult. Maybe cause its "too" real. Modern warfare 2 will more than likely be the best bet. I wonder how many of the "others" pc's cant run it though.

well, since we are having this at the hotel, what supples aside from regular computer stuff (computer, monitor, power cables, mouse, keyboard, CAT-5) are needed, ar they supplying tables and chairs and such???

and we need to actually decide what games CAN be played and will be played. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, how many people are coming.

I'm helping Jeff to clean up the house. I'm hoping everyone shows up early, or has whatever game installed, (hoping cod4) because I'll only be around until 10 since my days changed, but an hour or two is enough to rock you all. = P

It will be at Gen. Mills parents house. Same place as last year i believe. I need you to contact Froot loops and Raisan bran and what not. Get the word out, cause i dont have their numbers. I tried going by lucky's house after work and no one was home. I'll try again tomorrow. Start getting there around 7:30 and after. Try to have CoD4 installed and ready. I'm not sure if they have internet over there, but i think they do. But go ahead and have your steam ready in offline mode just in case.
